About the edition
Produced for Cove Park in DCA Print Studio, this limited edition screenprint by Nathan Coley is part of the Cove Park Portfolio. It is available individually or as part of a complete boxed portfolio that includes prints by the following artists: Claire Barclay, Christine Borland, Nathan Coley, Graham Fagen, Louise Hopkins, Ross Sinclair, Simon Starling. The Portfolio is presented in a high quality, lined, fabric-covered handmade box, designed by Sarah Tripp and produced by Downie Allison Downie Bookbinders, Glasgow.
Coley examines how the values of a society are reflected in, and determined by, its built environment, addressing concerns such as the importance of place, the social value of architecture and the meaning and relevance of contemporary monuments. In his work for the Cove Park Portfolio, Coley applied two black inks to black paper to form a ‘camouflage portrait’ that seems to deny or disappear into its own existence. The print alters in visibility according to the viewer’s position and the light sources reflected on it. In doing this it transposes the language of his series of paintings shown at Frieze Art Fair, 2006 and in the sculptural models and wall painting in his solo exhibition There will be no miracles here, at Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute, 2006. In its title and concept, the print also alludes to military camouflage, linking to the context of Cove Park’s location near the nuclear submarine base Faslane.

About Cove Park
Cove Park is an international artists’ residency centre located on an outstanding 50-acre rural site overlooking Loch Long on Scotland's west coast. The residency programme supports national and international artists working in all art forms and at every career stage. Artists are given the time, space, freedom and financial support required for research and the development of new work. Cove Park's visual arts programme also commissions new work for presentation on site or for exhibitions with partner venues; the first Cove Park Portfolio (2007) includes limited edition art works and prints from seven leading artists connected to Cove Park and the west coast.
Scotland + Venice 2019 - the Scottish presentation at the 2019 Venice Biennale - was commissioned and curated by Linsey Young with Cove Park and the commissioned artist, Charlotte Prodger, presented a major new solo exhibition in Venice in 2019. Cove Park celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020.About Nathan Coley
