This limited edition print is the product of Sagacity: a collaborative project between Aidan Moesby, DCA, University of Dundee, New Media Scotland and Project Ginsberg. This periodic table of emotions also exists as a digital version which illustrates the current mood of Dundee through sentiment analysis of twitter and local newspapers. It is a dynamic visualisation of the city right now.

I have been working with DCA and Nick Taylor from Dundee University on a public health project co-ordinated with New Media Scotland. Project Ginsberg was initiated as an arts programme exploring methods of non-medical intervention for those at risk of using the Health Services due to Mental Health issues. There are many systems which monitor or track moods, or wellbeing or happiness indices - strangely none seem to use emotions as the basis of this. Sagacity does. Indeed emotions are at the heart of our approach. If you ask someone how they are you generally get an answer of ‘good', 'happy' or 'sad' - binaries which are not very useful really. By producing a periodic table of emotions I have attempted to broaden our emotional lexicon and deepen our emotional intelligence.

My practice is mainly divided between projects which I initiate and manage as an artist and those which have a more curatorial focus. Within my arts practice these projects tend to be socially engaged. I extensively work within arts and health. As a curator I am interested in projects which address our social, physical, urban and natural environments - particularly where they intersect with elements of our well-being. My work is underpinned by conversation - real, overheard, imagined or visual. Aidan Moesby

About Aidan Moesby

As an artist, curator and writer, Moesby’s work is at the intersection of the visual arts, wellbeing and, increasingly, technology. Site or context-specific interventions serve as a catalyst for a socially-engaged conversation and personal or communal exploration. His current work investigates the dual crises of Climate Change and Mental Health exploring the relationships between the out physical weather and internal psycho-emotional weather. Discussions provide the core for the curation of public events, seminars and forums to specifically engage a non-art audience and explore the work in a wider context. This diversification and cross-pollination is integral to his overall practice.

Moesby is concerned with language: literally in text based pieces, objects as metaphor and the emotional and psychological language of spaces and location. He regularly participates in panel discussions, presents at conferences, guest lectures, trains and facilitates groups and discussions. Moesby has worked, exhibited and curated nationally and internationally working with partners such as Dundee Contemporary Arts, Newcastle University, NSUN, WIP: Stockholm, The Tetley, DASH, New Media Scotland, NHS24, ANAT, Watershed, Jadraas Art and The Sick of the Fringe.
