About the edition

Produced for Cove Park in DCA Print Studio, this limited edition screenprint by Claire Barclay is part of the Cove Park Portfolio. It is available individually or as part of a complete boxed portfolio that includes prints by the following artists: Claire Barclay, Christine Borland, Nathan Coley, Graham Fagen, Louise Hopkins, Ross Sinclair, Simon Starling. The Portfolio is presented in a high quality, lined, fabric-covered handmade box, designed by Sarah Tripp and produced by Downie Allison Downie Bookbinders, Glasgow.

Barclay was one of three artists representing Scotland in the exhibition Zenomap at the Venice Biennial in 2003 and was selected for British Art Show 6 in 2006. She evolves her work in a highly instinctive and experimental way, and is well known for her carefully composed sculptural installations that adopt methods used in weaving, woodturning, ceramics and print, to create a refined vocabulary of forms. Her screenprint for the Cove Park Portfolio used a spontaneous, hands-on process of cutting paper shapes to make the screens with which to print each layer of colour. The overall composition is vibrant and within it are abstracted illustrations of moving scissor blades, the very tool used to produce the shapes. The print relates back to her sculptural practice and her previous use of hand-printed fabrics as sculptural components.

About Cove Park

Cove Park is an international artists’ residency centre located on an outstanding 50-acre rural site overlooking Loch Long on Scotland's west coast. The residency programme supports national and international artists working in all art forms and at every career stage. Artists are given the time, space, freedom and financial support required for research and the development of new work. Cove Park's visual arts programme also commissions new work for presentation on site or for exhibitions with partner venues; the first Cove Park Portfolio (2007) includes limited edition art works and prints from seven leading artists connected to Cove Park and the west coast.

Scotland + Venice 2019 - the Scottish presentation at the 2019 Venice Biennale - was commissioned and curated by Linsey Young with Cove Park and the commissioned artist, Charlotte Prodger, presented a major new solo exhibition in Venice in 2019. Cove Park celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020.
