About the edition
This limited edition was developed in DCA Print Studio as part of the exhibition Shonky: The Aesthetics of Awkwardness. The fourth in Hayward Gallery Touring's Curatorial Open exhibitions, this major group project has been curated by artist John Walter working in partnership with DCA, the MAC, Belfast, and Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre.
True to the collaborative spirit of this exhibition, this deliberately jarring and flamboyant print was developed by artist and curator John Walter together with participating artist Benedict Drew during preparations for Shonky at Dundee Contemporary Arts. Tracing a line between alluring and ugly, decorative and ostentatious this print is a humorous nod to historic perspectives on ‘otherness’.
