About the edition
This photogravure print was created in DCA Print Studio as part of our DCA Editions programme to coincide with Lorna Macintyre's exhibition Pieces of You Are Here in DCA galleries.
Lorna Macintyre’s work explores, among other things, the idea of the trace, of a lingering gesture, of the ways in which we imprint ourselves into the world and the ways in which these impressions remain long after we’re gone [...] connecting fragments of the past with the lived present. The image in Macintyre’s delicate intaglio print is captured from a photograph of a museum display at the Capitoline Museums in Rome, showing the fragmented remains of the left hand of the enormous sculptural bronze Colossus of Constantine. This image makes reference to the historic traces or marks left by humankind over time, a theme that is present throughout Macintyre’s work for her exhibition at DCA.
Macintyre’s interest in the ability of different materials to retain traces of human interaction informs her exploration of print for this edition. The final image is a result of a several-stage process printed through a combination of human hand and mechanical pressure; transferring imagery from the past into a new printed form.

About Lorna Macintyre
Lorna Macintyre (b. 1977 Glasgow) is an artist based in Glasgow. Having studied for both a BA (1999) and MFA (2007) at the Glasgow School of Art, she now also works there as a visiting lecturer in Fine Art. Macintyre’s recent solo exhibitions include: Spolia, Cample Line, Dumfriesshire (2017); Much Marcle,Chapter, Cardiff (2016); Material Language or All Truths Wait in All Things, Mary Mary, Glasgow (2015); Solid Objects, Glasgow Project Room (2015); and Four Paper Fugues, Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute, part of GENERATION, 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland, (2014).
