About the edition

Part of a suite of three paper clay prints, together with Untitled I & Untitled II.

This series began with some accidental score marks the artist made on bus tickets that were lying underneath another artwork he was making – deliberate gestures captured on an unintended surface. By retrieving these marks, enlarging them and using a mechanical engraving process to transfer inky lines onto the new surface of soft paper clay, he creates a series of varying prints. Each carries its own divergent gestures and unplanned marks as a result of the process.

The artist has located his signature in a different place on the back of each edition, in a response to the individual smudges of ink and marks left during handling and fabrication.
